Gérard Vié was born in Paris, France, where he has spent most of his life in the hotel and restaurant business.
A graduate of the Hotel School of Paris, Vié apprenticed at Restaurant Leperouse and then worked as a junior chef at Restaurant Lucas-Carton and Hotel Plaza-Athenee, all in Paris, where he prepared food for French Presidents DeGaulle and Pompidou. For one year, he ventured to London wher he was chef de partie at Crillon Tower's Hotel. Returning to Paris, Vié was the executive chef at Restaurant Fregate and Wagons-Lit.
Since 1970, he has been the chef and proprietor of Les Trois marches in Versailles, a Michelin two-star restaurant. Vié is the official chef for all heads of state who visit Versailles. he has cooked for the Royal Family of England, the Queen of Denmark, the Prime Minister of Spain, President George Bush and Julia Child. His celebrity guests have included Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Robert DeNiro.
Vié is the author of four books, and he has appeared on French cooking shows for 10 years. he teaches at the Escoffier Foundation and is a member of the French Culinary Academy. The highly decorated Vié is the winner of the Master Chef of France Award and many other distinctions.
